How to Use a Tire Pressure Gauge Like a Pro

What You'll Need:

  • Your tire pressure gauge (digital, dial, or pencil).

  • Your vehicle's recommended PSI (found on a sticker inside the driver's door jamb or in the owner's manual—not on the tire itself!).

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Check Cold Tires: For the most accurate reading, check your tires when they are "cold," meaning the car has been parked for at least three hours.

  2. Remove the Valve Cap: Unscrew the plastic cap on the tire's valve stem and keep it in a safe place.

  3. Press the Gauge onto the Valve Stem: Firmly press the gauge's opening onto the valve stem. You might hear a brief hiss of air—this is normal.

  4. Get the Reading:

    • Digital: The reading will appear on the screen instantly.

    • Dial (Analog):: The needle will point to the pressure.

    • Pencil (Stick):: A measured stick will pop out of the barrel. The number closest to the barrel is your PSI.

  5. Recheck: It's a good habit to take the reading 2-3 times for accuracy.

  6. Replace the Cap: Screw the valve cap back on to keep dirt and moisture out.

It's that simple! Make this a monthly habit.
